Common questions

macOS says FolderForge "is damaged and can't be opened" — what do I do?▾
This is a macOS Gatekeeper warning for apps that aren't notarized with an Apple Developer certificate. It's safe to bypass — use the included install.command script from the zip. Double-click it and it automatically removes the quarantine flag and installs the app. If you prefer Terminal: xattr -cr /Applications/FolderForge.app
Does FolderForge work on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4)?▾
Yes. FolderForge is built natively for macOS and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs with full native performance on M-series chips. No Rosetta needed.
Does it require an internet connection?▾
Never. FolderForge works entirely offline. Folder structures are created locally on your Mac — nothing is ever sent to a server.
How does auto-sort work exactly?▾
When you create a project structure in a folder that already contains files, FolderForge scans for loose files and moves them into the appropriate subfolder based on file extension — RAW files go to RAW/, .mp4 goes to Footage/, .psd goes to Edited/, etc. The undo function in the menu bar reverses every move with a single click.
Can I share templates with my team?▾
Yes — Pro users can export all custom templates as a single JSON file and import it on any other Mac running FolderForge. Perfect for studios and agencies that want consistent structure across the team.
Why does the global shortcut need Accessibility permission?▾
macOS requires Accessibility permission for any app that wants to listen for keyboard events globally (i.e., while another app is in focus). This is a macOS security feature — FolderForge only uses it to detect the ⌥⌘N key combination and never reads any other input.
Is there a lifetime purchase option?▾
